I ended up getting a 500GB Western Digital. Their prices are pretty decent. As the drive isn’t even seen in Windows and I can hear it clicking from the other room I figure it’s in pretty bad shape. Steps I’ve taken so far.

Put the dead hard drive in a zip lock bag
Placed this in the freezer

Going to leave it there overnight and try and start recovering data in the morning. From what I’ve read this is a very temporary fix and if I’m lucky it might make the drive work for just enough time to recover the missing data.

Loc did it on his drive today and I think it worked quite well for him so fingers crossed! Seems to have a pretty good success rate from the research I’ve done. Will let you know how it goes.
